These photographs of the established plant show the bold quality of the Superba flower head, especially in the first month after the colour develops fully. Each floret emulates the shape of a stemless martini-glass and just touches its neighbours without pushing into their shapes. The reds and purples are truly rich colours: we missed them in 2005, and suspect the felling of mid-day shade may have caused some fading, but most of the heads were too far into the mauve range, like the one pictured on the left below.
